At the 2020 award of best innovation and impact in the annual Social Good Summit, Samuel Mattia won the male category with Martin Dainbaquee the Runner’s up. In the female category, Yembeh Kargbo got first place with Susan Fatu Tarawalie Runner’s up.
Similarly, a Covid Innovation Award was given to Franklyn Koroma and Malcolm Nuni for their innovation in support to the fight against Covid-19.
The Minister of Youth Mohamed Orman Bangura said “it is also worthy to note that amid the challenges facing young people, young people are determined to participate and be drivers of their future.” He added that, it is noteworthy to recognize their effort in overcoming these challenges in consideration to make Sierra Leone, a better country.
Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP Madam Rokya Dieng said the SGS selection process this year improved on regional representation. The young people applied at district level and regional winners competed for the final positions in both male and female categories.
Five young people were also awarded as ‘Youth Ambassadors’ representing the five regions- South, East, North, West and Northwest for 2021.
